Abstract

The textile production chain is diverse, globally networked and cost-driven. Rapidly changing collections, stricter ecological requirements and new production technologies increase the complexity of the textile market. For manufacturing textile companies, the analysis, planning and organization in complex market environments is therefore becoming increasingly complex. The aim of this thesis is to design a systematic model for decision support for production management in textile manufacturing companies. The relevant process and product characteristics of textile production are developed, analyzed and structured in a reference framework. The result is the Aachen Textile Production Theory. Based on the reference framework of the Aachen Textile Production Theory, requirement criteria for technology reference and production management are defined for the methodical analysis of textile production systems. From these requirements, the eight-step methodology for cost-optimal analysis of textile production systems is developed. The methodology is supported by the software solution TEXECON, developed in this thesis, in the structuring, analysis and evaluation of the alternative actions. The developed procedure is tested for its functionality in practice by means of three different use cases. The use cases include the microfactory production of a flat-knitted sweater, the manufacture of a fiber-reinforced anti-intrusion plate and the mass production of a denim fabric.
